Ever been to a bank to cash a check issued by them....and they charge you a fee...as the check recipient?
Well, that's what Bank of America does. You thought the $1.50 or more for using the ATM was unreasonable. For one thing, the ATM fee, as bad as it is, it's simply a convenience fee. Since you have the option to go to the ATM of your own bank and get your withdrawal transaction done for free. With check cashing however, if the check is being cashed at the bank of issue, such as an employee cashing a check from a business that has an account at said bank, then what is the reason for this fee?
It surely is not a law to NOT have a bank account. So why then does Bank of America (B of A) (actually S of B) but again, why do they charge $5 to the person cashing the check if it is indeed a Bank of America check?
financial institutions, bank of america, bank fees, atm fees
Bank of America will then also badger you about opening up an account with them every single time you visit their bank for anything. They tell you that you won't have this $5 fee if you simply open up an account with them.
Perhaps you already have an account at another bank like Wells Fargo for instance, but you don't want to wait for a hold on the check or perhaps you are not near a Wells Fargo and you need or want cash now.
So in other words, Bank of America blackmails you into getting an account by having their check issued to you, it gets you into their bank and they then use that against you.
Talk about an insult of disrespect to your customers. Bank of America is clearly in the practice of dirty business. They don't respect your rights or opinions, they simply want to decide for you, or else....you're gonna pay.
What's worse is that they will act as if all banks do the same thing, which is indeed not true. In fact there is probably no other bank doing this. If they all jump aboard, then I think it would only be reasonable to stop doing business with them.
I for one have had an account with B of A in the past and for some reason, they could never show me a balance on my account that matched my records. There was always some extra fee or some unexplained reason why the balance was not right. Luckily this never happened with any other bank I've used such as Bank of the West, Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual or Union Bank of California.
Clearly, if I had my way, no one would give Bank of America a penny of business....but unfortunately they are the world bank. They rule everything, because we give them the power.
