Most of us have cell phones and many of us are with one of 4 major carriers.
These include companies like Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T/Cingular.
These major providers have a stranglehold on many consumers who have contracts.
The cell phone bill is usually not what is advertised as well.
Doesn't it drive us crazy to get our phone bill from say Sprint for example and you see that your bill is easily 2-3 times as much as what we expected. Many of us have experienced this.
The reason why is because of all the undisclosed fees and taxes that are introduced on our contract billing.
By developing their fine print to the point of insanity, the lawyers of these major corporations will have us believe that we can trust them based on the neatness of the advertising campaign or some trivial feature to their product or service.
Many of the features on a cell phone are more difficult to avoid than to purchase.
With so many 3rd party companies adding on 3rd party services, you are also risking the privacy of your phone bill information if you don't keep very close tabs on your service provider.
The fact is, many cell phone companies are fleecing Americans. They are pretending to sell products and services at one price that doesn't include all the extra fees.
Also, frivolous behavior is another safe bet for cell companies and similar products.
When a user sees that he or she can buy say a ring tone on their phone, it creates an impulse debt situation where a person is disconnected from the end result for a limited time.
This is the behavior that is responsible for some of those surprise charges.
We all know that we can dispute many charges and get our money back much of the time.
The problem with this is that it can be very time consuming and frustrating dealing with the customer service departments of many major companies.
The third world and automates outsourcing allows the major companies the cut cost, but does it do anything at all for the ethics of good business and support of ones own economy? Probably not!
Hopefully with future changes in the White House and other political circles, we will see an end to a never ending ongoing war and we will see that environment for a self sustaining domestic economy will be improved, until then I think, in order for us to spark the economy back into full gear, one thing we need to do is restore consumer confidence.
Many consumers feel that the inflation is much higher than the media may report. This is probably thanks to many of those hidden fees and back end charges.
